Common Conditions Treated by Endoscopic Spine Surgery

Endoscopic spine surgery can be used to treat a variety of spinal conditions, including:

  • Herniated discs
  • Lumbar spinal stenosis
  • Facet joint syndrome
  • Spinal cysts

Endoscopic Spine Surgery Procedure

Endoscopic spine surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that involves making small incisions in the back. A thin, lighted tube with a camera is inserted through the incision. Here is what typically happens during the surgery:

  • The patient is given local or general anesthesia, depending on the specific case and patient's condition.
  • A small incision, typically around 1 centimeter, is made near the affected spine area. This tiny cut minimizes tissue damage and scarring.
  • A tubular device equipped with an endoscope (a small camera) is inserted through the incision. This camera provides a clear, magnified view of the spine structures on a monitor, allowing the surgeon to visualize the area.
  • Using small, specialized surgical instruments, our surgeon will remove parts of a herniated disc, bone spurs, or other tissue causing nerve compression. The precision of the endoscope allows for targeted removal without affecting surrounding tissues.
  • The incisions will be closed with stitches or surgical glue.

This procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis. This means patients can go home on the same day as the procedure.

Recovery from Endoscopic Spine Surgery

Recovery from endoscopic spine surgery is typically much faster than recovery from traditional open spine surgery. Most patients can return to their normal activities within a few weeks.

However, it is important to follow our doctor's instructions carefully during the recovery process. This may include:

  • Resting for the first few days after the procedure.
  • Avoiding strenuous activity.
  • Taking pain medication as prescribed.
  • Attending follow-up appointments with your doctor.
